Retain Top Talent
The single most sustainable advantage your organization has in today's economy is your workforce. Employees that are not engaged become de-motivated and can lower morale and cause problems within the workforce before they quit – or are fired. (See The Lifecycle of an Employee.) That's why it is so important to keep the top performers you have.
synergize! has the tools to help you gauge employee satisfaction and help you understand how to best motivate them and keep them satisfied so they'll stay.
1. Understanding how to communicate effectively with your team, and knowing what motivates them will help you keep top performers performing at peak level – and stay on your team.
DISC reveals the individual's natural behavior and communication style and what kind of behavior adjustments s/he makes in the work environment. It evaluates how individuals deal with the "Four P's" of behavior:
- Dealing with Problems (D: Direct)
- Interacting with People (I: Interactive)
- Following a work Pace (S: Steady)
- Adhering to Procedures (C: Compliant)
The key to successful professional development and personal growth is knowledge of each person's unique behaviors. Understanding behavior styles can enable you to maximize strengths and minimize the impact of weaknesses, thereby energizing your workforce to achieve organizational goals.
DISC is an excellent tool to improve morale, overcome team dysfunctions, increase productivity, and identify personal development plans.

Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values ("PIAV") reveals which of six underlying motivators is most relevant to the individual. Research has shown that we are all primarily motivated by one or two of these six values. These values, or life passions, provide a lens through which we see the world and through which we determine personal success and fulfillment. The six passions, identified on the PIAV report, are:
- A search for knowledge.
- A passion for balance and harmony, creativity and nature.
- A desire for a high return on investment of time, energy, money and other resources.
- A quest for position status, influence and prestige.
- A passion to make a difference in the lives of others.
- A desire to follow a defined system for living.
The information obtained from the PIAV enables you to better understand your own reactions, make career choices that will fulfill your personal passions, understand underlying conflicts with others and become aware of how others view the world.
The PIAV can help you energize your workforce by identifying candidates that are passionate about your mission and vision and by revealing potential barriers among current team members. It is an excellent tool to help select candidates that will fit in with your culture, retain top performers and develop your team to peak productivity.

The Table Group
2. The Team Assessment developed by Patrick Lencioni of the Table Group and author of the Five Dysfunctions of a Team, provides the tool to evaluate how effectively your team functions. Top performers don't leave jobs because they don't like the job. They often leave because they don't like their manager. Poor managers usually lead dysfunctional teams.
The Team Assessment, completed anonymously by each team member, enables you to identify where your team dysfunctions are, and what to do to improve team functioning and keep your top performers around.
Now available is a Team Assessment Comparison Report. After the initial team evaluation followed by an action plan to develop weaker areas you can re-evaluate your team and easily compare the growth and development (or lack thereof!) from the original evaluation.

3. Top performers want to feel appreciated, and they want the opportunity to develop to their full potential. ASSESS is our most comprehensive web-based assessment that links individual results to organizational objectives and provides individuals with the information they need to grow and improve. The Assess Expert System can be used for individual and team coaching, affirming the employee's value to the team and facilitating action plans that allow your top employees to remain committed to your organization and team.

There are a lot of opinions being thrown around out there. And lots of them aren’t backed by much more than the hot air of the person who issues them. Last week when I was on vacation somebody I spent a lot of time with found it necessary to share her very strong opinions, all [...]

When it rains it pours!
Thu, 24 Jun 2010 12:20
It poured all day. Over ten inches in nine hours. The monthly average is—was—4.5 inches. That was in Oklahoma City last week where my cousin’s pool overflowed and the rain seeped into her sun room. All morning. We spent the morning sucking up water with the wet vac, which could not keep up with the [...]
